A routine Sunday afternoon on the busy VIP Road transformed into a scene of chaos and horror when a speeding Lamborghini Revuelto, allegedly driven by the inebriated scion of a tobacco empire, became a weapon of metal, injuring at least six people and leaving a trail of shattered vehicles and public faith in its wake.
The incident, occurring around 3:15 PM near the Rev-3 Mall, involved Shivam Mishra, son of noted businessman KK Mishra, who reportedly lost control of the hypercar valued at over ₹10 crore. According to DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava, the vehicle first rammed an auto-rickshaw before plowing into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle with such force that its rider was flung nearly ten feet into the air. The Lamborghini then mounted the motorcycle, dragging it along before finally crashing into an electric pole.
Eyewitness accounts paint a grim picture of the moments following the impact. Instead of stopping to aid the injured, the driver allegedly attempted to flee. The situation escalated further when Mishra’s bouncers, who were following in a separate car, arrived at the scene. Reports suggest they tried to shield him and allegedly misbehaved with the gathering crowd.
“I was standing beside my parked bike when the car hit me. I was thrown several meters,” said Taufiq Ahmed, one of the injured, who suffered serious leg injuries. Other victims sustained fractures and bruises, their ordinary day upended by an act of reckless privilege.
Public outrage, simmering at the sight of the devastation and the perceived attempts to escape accountability, boiled over. Enraged passersby surrounded the mangled supercar, smashed its windows, and pulled Shivam Mishra out. It was only with the arrival of the police that crowd control was established. Mishra and the injured were subsequently shifted to a private hospital.
The car, registered in Northwest Delhi’s Rohini, now sits in police custody, its severe damages a stark testament to the violence of the crash. Police have seized the vehicle and confirmed that an investigation is underway, with charges expected to be filed based on eyewitness testimonies and medical reports.
The incident has ignited a firestorm of debate, transcending a simple traffic accident. It underscores a toxic cocktail of extreme wealth, alleged impunity, and a blatant disregard for human safety. The involvement of bouncers highlights a concerning culture of insulation around the affluent, while the public’s violent reaction speaks to a deep-seated frustration with systems perceived to favour the powerful.
As the investigation proceeds, all eyes are on the Kanpur Police. The handling of this case will be a critical test of whether the law applies equally to all, or if, as the angry crowd on VIP Road feared, the flash of a Lamborghini’s badge can eclipse the rights of ordinary citizens standing by the roadside. The question remains: Will this be a fleeting headline of urban chaos, or a catalyst for accountability?
