He has commenced construction on the longest shallow tunnel in India, connecting Panipat to Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport. The tunnel will be 3.6 km long and will have eight lanes, making it the longest and widest urban road tunnel in the country.
The tunnel is part of the Dwarka Expressway project, which is a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Delhi and its neighboring states. The expressway will be 29 km long and will have four to six lanes in each direction. It is expected to be completed in 2025.
The Panipat-Delhi Airport tunnel will be built using the cut-and-cover method, which is a type of tunnel construction that is typically used in urban areas. In this method, a trench is excavated and then covered with a roof. The tunnel will be built at a depth of 12-15 meters below ground level.
The tunnel will have a number of features to ensure safety and comfort for users. These include:
