Government Committed to Safe Workplaces and Equal Opportunities for Women: Minister Annapurna Devi

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi today reaffirmed the government's commitment to making every working sector safe for women while ensuring equal working opportunities for them across the country.

Addressing the National Conference on Safety of Women at Workplace in New Delhi, the Minister emphasized that women's safety at workplaces remains a top priority for the government as part of India's journey towards Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

"The government aims to make every working sector safe for women and provide equal working opportunities to them," Annapurna Devi stated, underlining the transformative initiatives undertaken by the Ministry to create a conducive work environment for women.

SHe-Box Portal: A Game-Changer

The Minister highlighted the effectiveness of the SHe-Box portal, a centralized platform that has significantly simplified the process for women to register complaints related to workplace harassment. She informed that several workplaces have already registered themselves with this portal, demonstrating the growing acceptance of digital mechanisms in addressing workplace grievances.

"The SHe-Box portal has made it easier for women to register their complaints at the workplace, ensuring that their concerns are addressed promptly and efficiently," she said.

Budget 2026 and Women Empowerment

Annapurna Devi also hailed the Union Budget 2026 for giving due importance to women's empowerment through various allocations and initiatives. She noted that the government's continued focus on women-centric policies reflects its commitment to creating an inclusive workforce.

The Minister praised several government schemes that have been working towards women's welfare, including the Ujjwala Yojna, which provides clean cooking fuel to women from below poverty line families, and the Mudra Yojna, which offers financial support to women entrepreneurs.

Strengthening the POSH Act

The National Conference on Safety of Women at Workplace, organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, aims to create safe, dignified, and harassment-free workplaces for all women across sectors. The conference also focuses on strengthening the implementation of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

National Workplace Safety Pledge

On the occasion, Annapurna Devi administered the National Workplace Safety Pledge, reinforcing the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring workplace safety for women. The pledge marks a significant step towards institutionalizing safety measures across sectors.

The Conference was also attended by Minister of State for Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur, and other dignitaries from the government, who deliberated on strategies to enhance workplace safety mechanisms and ensure strict compliance with existing laws.

The event witnessed participation from various stakeholders, including industry representatives, government officials, and women's rights advocates, who engaged in meaningful discussions on creating safer work environments for women across the country.
