Sharad Pawar Hospitalised in Pune After Health Deteriorates

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) chief Sharad Pawar was taken to a hospital in Pune on Monday afternoon after his health deteriorated, officials said. The veteran leader was shifted from his residence in Baramati to the city under medical supervision.

Pawar was accompanied by his daughter and NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule, as well as his wife Pratibha Pawar, during the transfer. The 85-year-old leader was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic Hospital after he experienced symptoms including cough, cold and difficulty in breathing.

Confirming the development, Ruby Hall Clinic chief cardiologist and managing trustee Dr Parvez Grant told PTI that a team of doctors would conduct a detailed medical examination. “Upon arrival, a team of doctors will check him and accordingly further course of action will be decided,” he said.

Hospital sources said Pawar’s condition is being closely monitored, though no further details regarding his treatment or diagnosis have been disclosed so far.

A towering figure in Indian politics, Sharad Pawar has served in public life for over six decades and has held several key positions, including Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Union Minister. He is also a survivor of oral cancer, diagnosed in the late 1990s, and underwent multiple surgeries in India and the United States as part of his treatment.

Despite past health challenges, Pawar has remained politically active and continues to play a central role in Maharashtra’s opposition politics. Party leaders and supporters across the state have expressed concern over his health and wished him a speedy recovery.
