Omar Abdullah Set to Become Chief Minister as National Conference Gains Majority Support in Jammu and Kashmir

 

In a significant political development, the National Conference (NC) has positioned Omar Abdullah as its Chief Ministerial candidate for the incoming government in Jammu and Kashmir. This decision was formalized during the Legislature Party meeting, where Omar Abdullah was unanimously chosen as the chairman of the LP, indicating a clear mandate from within the party ranks.

Dr. Farooq Abdullah, President of the National Conference, announced after the meeting that Omar Abdullah will now proceed to secure the necessary letter of support from their coalition partner, the Congress party. The NC has garnered support from 46 legislators, a majority in the 90-member House, bolstered by the backing of four independent MLAs—Pyare Lal Sharma, Satish Sharma, Choudhary Mohammed Akram, and Dr. Rameshwar Singh—who emerged victorious in their respective constituencies.
