In a grand ceremony marked by significant political presence, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Haryana for the second time. The event took place in Panchkula, where more than 50,000 people gathered to witness the swearing-in ceremony. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya administered the oath of office to Saini.
The ceremony saw the attendance of several key BJP figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and chief ministers from BJP-ruled states like Madhya Pradesh's Mohan Yadav and Uttar Pradesh's Yogi Adityanath. Extensive security arrangements were put in place for the high-profile event, with traffic advisories issued to manage the large crowds around the venue.
On Wednesday, Nayab Singh Saini officially staked his claim to form the government in Haryana after he was unanimously elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party. His nomination was proposed by MLA Krishan Kumar Bedi and seconded by senior BJP leader Anil Vij, who had also expressed interest in becoming the Chief Minister. Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attended the meeting as central observers of the BJP, further solidifying the party's support for Saini. Other notable attendees included Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar, Rao Inderjit Singh, Dharmendra Pradhan, and BJP leaders Biplab Deb and Mohan Lal Badoli.
Saini, who served as the caretaker chief minister before the election, was declared the party’s face for the state election. His previous tenure and political leadership garnered strong support within the party, ensuring a smooth leadership transition following the legislative party meeting.
The BJP's win in Haryana defied many expectations, including those from exit polls, which had predicted a return to power for the opposition Congress. In a dramatic political turnaround, the BJP managed to secure 48 seats in the 90-member state assembly, staging an impressive recovery after initially trailing in early vote counts. Saini himself won the Ladwa assembly constituency, defeating Congress candidate Mewa Singh by a margin of over 16,000 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Adding to the BJP's numbers, three Independent MLAs, including Savitri Jindal from Hisar, extended their support to the party, further solidifying its position in the state assembly. This hat-trick victory marks the third consecutive term for the BJP in Haryana, showcasing its continued dominance in the state’s political landscape.
With Nayab Singh Saini at the helm once again, the BJP’s leadership in Haryana aims to continue its development agenda and bolster the state’s growth across sectors. As the political dynamics shift post-election, Saini’s government is expected to focus on consolidating its base while addressing key issues such as employment, infrastructure, and rural development.
The swearing-in ceremony marked a significant moment for the BJP, reinforcing its grip on Haryana politics and setting the stage for the party’s future governance in the state.
