A Night of Fury: Kanpur Woman Allegedly Kills Husband with Axe After Drunken Argument

A domestic evening turned into a scene of horrific violence in Tikra village of Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district, leading to the death of a 45-year-old man who was allegedly attacked repeatedly with an axe by his wife following a prolonged drunken argument. The incident has sent shockwaves through the quiet community in the Bithoor area.

The victim, identified as Pappu, who worked at a tile and stone laying firm, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Thursday morning at a local hospital. According to police reports, the fatal altercation took place on Wednesday night after the couple had been consuming alcohol together at their home.

A Prolonged and Fatal Altercation

Police officials stated that the argument between the couple raged for nearly two hours before it escalated into extreme violence. In the heat of the conflict, the woman, identified as Veerangana, allegedly seized an axe kept within the house and launched a brutal attack on her husband. Pappu collapsed onto the floor, lying in a pool of blood after sustaining multiple strikes.

In a grim aftermath, authorities allege that Veerangana cleaned the bloodstains from the floor and attempted to mislead her in-laws about the cause of her husband's injuries, claiming he had been hurt in a road accident. It was this initial cover story that relatives relayed to the police when they were informed.

Unraveling the Truth

The truth began to emerge when doctors at the hospital, after Pappu was admitted in critical condition, flagged the nature of his wounds as consistent with a sharp-weapon assault, not a traffic accident. This crucial detail prompted a deeper investigation by the police.

By the time the authorities arrived at the scene and the gravity of the situation became clear, Veerangana had reportedly fled the family home. Disturbingly, she is said to have taken the couple's four-year-old son with her. During the police inspection of the residence, the child was initially found hiding alone inside a room before it was discovered his mother had escaped with him. Their current whereabouts are unknown, and a search is underway.

A Family in Mourning

Pappu's grieving mother, Bitola Devi, spoke to local media, revealing that her son had married Veerangana in 2019. Veerangana, originally from Tindwari in Banda district, and Pappu had one son together, whose future is now uncertain.

The Kanpur police have registered a case and are investigating the motives and precise sequence of events that led to this tragic outburst of violence. The incident highlights the devastating potential of domestic conflicts, particularly when exacerbated by substance abuse, and has left a small village grappling with the aftermath of an unthinkable crime.
