Prabhat Jha, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a prominent figure in Madhya Pradesh politics, passed away on Thursday at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. Jha, who had served as the President of BJP's Madhya Pradesh unit and as a Rajya Sabha MP, breathed his last after battling neurological issues. He is survived by his two sons.
Originally hailing from Koreyahi village in Sitamarhi district of Bihar, Jha was esteemed for his intellectual contributions and held a significant reputation in the BJP's intellectual circles. He also served as the National Vice President of the party.
BJP spokesperson Hitesh Bajpai confirmed Jha's demise. In late June, Jha was airlifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon from Bhopal due to his deteriorating health condition. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and BJP state general secretary Hitanand Sharma had visited him in Bhopal to check on his health before he was transferred to Gurgaon.
According to BJP leaders, on June 29, Prabhat Jha was transported via air ambulance from Bhopal to Delhi due to neurological complications. He was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon, where he had been receiving routine treatment. High-profile visitors including Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, and Hitanand Sharma Bansal had visited him in the hospital.
Prabhat Jha was considered a stalwart in the Gwalior-Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh. Despite being originally from Bihar, he made a significant impact in Madhya Pradesh politics and was elected to the Rajya Sabha twice from the state. His demise marks the end of an era for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, where he was known for his leadership and intellectual prowess.
