Trump Issues Fresh Warning to Iran, Signals Harder Stance Amid Stalled Talks

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday delivered a sharp warning to Iran, declaring that the Islamic Republic would no longer be dealing with what he described as “Mr. Nice Guy.” The remarks come at a time when already fragile diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran appear to be losing momentum.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump criticized Iran’s approach to negotiations, writing, “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a non-nuclear deal. They better get smart soon!” The message was accompanied by an edited image of the US president holding an assault rifle, adding a provocative visual layer to his statement.

The warning followed closely on the heels of Trump’s earlier claim that Iran is “in a state of collapse.” He further alleged that Tehran is eager for the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, suggesting internal instability within the Iranian leadership. “They want us to ‘Open the Hormuz Strait,’ as soon as possible, as they try to figure out their leadership situation,” Trump said, expressing confidence that Iran would eventually stabilise.

Talks in Limbo

The latest rhetoric comes as US-Iran peace talks remain stalled. Tensions have been exacerbated by Trump’s decision not to send an American delegation to Pakistan, where Iranian officials have been engaging in parallel discussions.

Iran’s delegation, led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, recently held meetings in Islamabad with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Asim Munir. These discussions are seen as part of broader regional efforts to navigate the diplomatic impasse.

On the US side, Trump initially indicated that Vice President JD Vance would not participate in the talks. Instead, he suggested that any future engagement could be led by special envoy Steve Witkoff along with Jared Kushner.

Rising Uncertainty

The increasingly confrontational tone from Washington has added to uncertainty surrounding the future of US-Iran relations. With negotiations at a standstill and rhetoric intensifying, prospects for a breakthrough appear distant, raising concerns about further escalation in an already volatile geopolitical landscape.
