The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition challenging the approval granted for the renovation of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's iconic Mumbai residence, Mannat, clearing the way for the renovation work to continue. The apex court found no merit in the plea and refused to interfere with the permissions granted for the renovation of the sea-facing heritage property in Bandra.
The petition had been filed by a Mumbai resident who questioned the approvals issued for the renovation of Mannat, one of the city's most famous celebrity residences. During the hearing, the Supreme Court also raised concerns over the petitioner's intent, observing that the motive behind filing the plea appeared doubtful at first glance. After considering the matter, the bench dismissed the petition and declined to grant any stay on the ongoing renovation work.
With the renovation underway, Shah Rukh Khan, his wife Gauri Khan, and their children Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam have temporarily shifted to a luxury apartment building in Mumbai's Pali Hill locality. According to reports, the actor has leased four floors of the building from film producer Vashu Bhagnani for the duration of the renovation.
Mannat is widely regarded as one of Mumbai's most recognisable landmarks and remains a major attraction for Shah Rukh Khan's fans, many of whom gather outside the bungalow to catch a glimpse of the actor. Situated along the Bandstand promenade in Bandra West, the Grade III heritage property was originally built in 1914 and was known as Villa Vienna before Shah Rukh Khan purchased it in 2001 and renamed it Mannat, meaning a heartfelt wish or prayer.
Spread across nearly 27,000 square feet, the luxurious residence combines a heritage-style façade with a modern six-storey annexe. Estimated to be worth around ₹200 crore, Mannat ranks among India's most valuable celebrity homes. The interiors, designed by Gauri Khan in collaboration with architect Kaif Faquih, feature expansive living spaces, a private library, gymnasium, swimming pool, home theatre, multiple elevators, and several elegantly designed bedrooms.
On the professional front, Shah Rukh Khan is preparing for the release of his upcoming film King, which is scheduled to hit theatres on December 24, 2026. The film is among the most anticipated Bollywood releases of the year and marks the actor's next major project following his recent blockbuster successes.
