SP and Congress to Fight Together in UP Assembly By-Elections Post 2024 Lok Sabha Success

After their impressive performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress are gearing up to contest together in the upcoming by-elections for 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. According to media reports, both parties are set to collaborate on these crucial seats.

The Samajwadi Party is expected to field candidates on seven seats, while Congress plans to contest on three. This move comes after the elevation of current MLAs to parliamentary positions, leaving nine assembly seats vacant. Additionally, SP MLA Irfan Solanki's seat remains vacant due to his incarceration.

Out of the 10 assembly seats up for by-elections, SP had a stronghold on five, while BJP held three, and one each belonged to the Nishad Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal. SP controlled Karhal in Mainpuri, Milkipur in Ayodhya, Kundarki in Moradabad, Katari in Ambedkarnagar, and Seesamau in Kanpur. BJP had Ghaziabad, Phulpur, and Aligarh, while Rashtriya Lok Dal and Nishad Party had Mirzapur's Majhwa and Meerapur in Muzaffarnagar, respectively.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, SP secured 37 seats, and Congress secured 6 seats. SP had earlier contributed 17 of Uttar Pradesh's 80 seats to Congress, winning six of those seats. The party successfully secured 37 seats in the remaining seats they contested.

This collaboration between SP and Congress is seen as a strategic move to consolidate their gains from the recent Lok Sabha elections and strengthen their positions in the upcoming by-elections. The results of these by-elections will be closely watched as they could indicate future trends in Uttar Pradesh politics leading up to the next general elections.
