Rajnath Singh to Lay Foundation Stone for Mega Aluminium Extrusion Press in Nagpur

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lay the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art 10,000-ton Aluminium Extrusion Press at Yantra India Limited's Ordnance Factory in Ambajhari, Nagpur, on Friday. The ambitious project is expected to significantly enhance India's defence manufacturing capabilities and strengthen the country's push towards self-reliance in critical strategic sectors.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the proposed extrusion press will serve as a major national asset for the defence and aerospace industries. The facility will enable the production of large, high-strength and precision-engineered aluminium alloy extrusions, which are essential components used in a wide range of military and aerospace platforms.

The establishment of the advanced manufacturing facility is expected to reduce India's dependence on imported aluminium extruded components, many of which are currently sourced from foreign suppliers. By developing indigenous production capabilities, the project will help ensure greater supply chain security and support the country's long-term strategic interests.

The new extrusion press will play a crucial role in meeting the growing requirements of India's defence sector, particularly as the country accelerates efforts to modernise its armed forces and expand domestic manufacturing under the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Officials said the facility will contribute to the development of a robust domestic ecosystem for advanced materials and precision manufacturing, creating opportunities for technological advancement and industrial growth. It is also expected to support the production needs of various defence public sector undertakings, private manufacturers and aerospace organisations.

The project reflects the government's continued focus on strengthening indigenous defence production and reducing import dependency through investments in advanced manufacturing infrastructure. With the foundation stone ceremony in Nagpur, another significant step is being taken towards building a self-reliant and globally competitive defence industrial base in India.
