PM Modi’s Eastern India Visit: Infrastructure Push in Bengal, Key Projects and Tributes in Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to undertake an important visit to eastern India beginning tomorrow, with engagements scheduled in West Bengal and Assam aimed at strengthening infrastructure and honouring the region’s historical legacy.

In West Bengal, the Prime Minister will travel to Ranaghat in Nadia district, where he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate two major National Highway projects. Valued at around ₹3,200 crore, these projects are expected to play a crucial role in improving connectivity between Kolkata and Siliguri. Once completed, the highways will significantly reduce travel time by nearly two hours, facilitating faster and smoother movement of vehicles and boosting trade, tourism and economic activity across the region. Mr Modi will also address a public gathering at the event.

Following his engagements in West Bengal, the Prime Minister will embark on a two-day visit to Assam. A key highlight of his visit will be the inauguration of the New Terminal Building of Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati, a project aimed at enhancing passenger capacity and improving air connectivity in the Northeast.

On the final day of his Assam visit, Prime Minister Modi will pay homage to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement at the Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Boragaon, Guwahati, recognising their sacrifices and contribution to the state’s history. Later, he will perform the Bhoomi Pujan for the Ammonia-Urea Project of Assam Valley Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited, a significant initiative expected to strengthen fertilizer production and support agricultural growth in the region.

The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the Centre’s focus on infrastructure development, regional connectivity and economic growth, while also acknowledging the cultural and historical significance of eastern and northeastern India.
