In a major counter-terror operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday carried out searches at three locations across Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar and Shopian districts as part of its ongoing crackdown on suspected unlawful and separatist-linked activities in the Valley.
According to officials, the raids began early in the morning and were conducted simultaneously at religious and residential premises linked to organisations and individuals under the scanner of central agencies.
One of the key locations searched was Darul Uloom Sirajul Uloom, located in the Imam Sahib area of Shopian district. The institution was declared an illegal entity by authorities last month amid allegations of activities linked to banned organisations and radical networks operating in the region.
The NIA teams, assisted by local police and security personnel, carried out extensive searches inside the premises and reportedly examined documents, digital devices, and other materials relevant to the investigation. Security around the area was tightened during the operation to prevent any disturbance.
Another search operation was conducted at the residence of former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shahzada Aurangzeb in the Molu Chitragam area of Shopian. Officials said the searches were linked to investigations into alleged terror financing, separatist activities, and the functioning of banned organisations in Jammu and Kashmir.
In Srinagar, NIA officials also searched Jamiat ul Banaat, a girls’ religious school situated in the Lal Bazar locality. Authorities suspect that certain institutions may have been used for activities linked to extremist propaganda or support networks, though officials have not yet released detailed findings from the raids.
The searches are part of the NIA’s broader efforts to dismantle terror-support structures, identify funding channels, and curb radicalisation in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the past few years, security agencies have intensified operations against organisations accused of maintaining links with separatist groups and militant outfits.
Officials stated that the raids were conducted under strict security arrangements and that investigations are ongoing. No immediate arrests were reported till the filing of this report.
The latest action comes amid heightened security vigilance in Jammu and Kashmir, where agencies continue to monitor activities linked to banned organisations and suspected terror networks. Authorities are expected to scrutinise the seized material further to determine possible connections with unlawful activities or terror funding operations.
