In a major success against insurgent activities in Manipur, a joint team of security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition during extensive intelligence-based combing and search operations conducted in Leilon Vaiphei village and nearby areas of Kangpokpi district.
The operation, carried out over a period of three days, involved personnel from the Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), and the Indian Army. According to police sources, the coordinated operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of armed militants and hidden weapon stockpiles in the region.
During the search operation, security forces reportedly engaged in an encounter with armed militants. However, no casualties were reported on either side. The militants are believed to have retreated from the area as the forces intensified their combing efforts.
The operation resulted in the recovery of around 40 weapons, marking one of the significant arms seizures in the district in recent months. The recovered arsenal included 17 single and double-barrel guns, AK-47 assault rifles, Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), SKS rifles, and 11 Single Barrel Loading (SBL) rifles. A substantial quantity of ammunition and related military equipment was also seized during the operation.
Officials stated that the recovery is expected to weaken the operational capabilities of militant groups active in the region and help improve the security situation in the violence-affected state. The seizure comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and restore normalcy in Manipur, which has witnessed prolonged ethnic tensions and sporadic violence over the past year.
Security forces have intensified intelligence gathering and search operations across vulnerable districts to locate hidden arms dumps and prevent militant groups from regrouping. Authorities said such coordinated operations would continue in the coming weeks to ensure peace and stability in the region.
The successful operation highlights the growing coordination among various security agencies and underscores the government's commitment to maintaining law and order in Manipur. Investigations are underway to determine the origin of the recovered weapons and identify the militant groups linked to the cache.
