Major Blow to Maoists in Bastar: Six Neutralized, High-Rank Cadre Kanna Among Those Killed

In a significant counter-insurgency victory, security forces neutralized six Maoists, including a high-ranking cadre carrying a substantial bounty, during a fierce encounter inside a National Park in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Tuesday.

The operation, a well-coordinated effort by the Chhattisgarh Police, the District Reserve Guard (DRG), and the Special Task Force (STF), is being hailed as a critical step in dismantling the remaining operational network of Left Wing Extremist (LWE) cadres in the troubled south Bastar region.

Officials confirmed that among the slain Maoists was Kanna, also known as Buchanna, who was carrying a reward of ₹8 lakh on his head. Kanna was a notorious figure, known to intelligence agencies for playing a pivotal role in orchestrating violence, issuing threats, and sustaining the Maoist insurgency in the area. The elimination of such a key operative is expected to severely cripple the group's local command structure.

The firefight took place in the challenging, forested terrain of the National Park, an area historically used by the Maoists as a hideout. The security forces, acting on precise intelligence, launched the operation and successfully engaged the insurgents.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai lauded the bravery and efficiency of the security personnel. He stated that the success is a testament to the forces' "coordinated planning, courage and precise execution in a challenging terrain."

In a statement underscoring the government's resolve, the Chief Minister linked this achievement to a larger, time-bound national mission. "The state government, under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the leadership of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, is working in mission mode with a clear commitment to eliminate Left Wing Extremism from Chhattisgarh by 31 March 2026," he said.

Reiterating the administration's unwavering stance, Chief Minister Sai added that the state government and security agencies remain united in their resolve to carry this campaign to its final conclusion. He emphasized that every such success not only weakens the insurgent network but also "strengthens the pathway to peace, confidence and development in the region."

This operation marks one of the most substantial successes for security forces in south Bastar in recent months and is expected to provide a major impetus to ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and enable developmental projects to reach the region's remote communities.
