Kangana Ranaut Calls Rahul Gandhi “Tapori” Amid Row Over Parliament Conduct

A fresh political controversy erupted on Wednesday after Kangana Ranaut, Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling him a “tapori” and alleging that his behaviour makes women uncomfortable.

Speaking to reporters within the Parliament complex during the ongoing Budget Session, Ranaut did not mince words in her criticism. “We women feel very uncomfortable seeing him. He comes across like a vagabond and addresses people disrespectfully. If someone is giving an interview, he makes hooting calls,” she said, describing what she claimed to be Gandhi’s conduct in public spaces.

Her remarks come in the wake of an open letter signed by 84 former bureaucrats, 116 military veterans, and four lawyers, urging Rahul Gandhi to apologise over a recent incident at Parliament. The controversy stems from Gandhi having tea and biscuits at the Makar Dwar entrance of Parliament on March 12, which the signatories described as “deeply concerning” and reflective of a “conscious disregard for parliamentary authority.”

The letter was led by former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police S P Vaid, and has added fuel to an already heated political environment.

Ranaut further intensified her criticism by drawing a comparison with Gandhi’s sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who represents Wayanad in Parliament. “He should observe the conduct and behaviour of his sister, which is very good,” she said, adding, “Rahul Gandhi himself is a shame.”

The Congress party has not yet issued an official response to Ranaut’s remarks or the open letter. However, the incident has once again highlighted the increasingly sharp rhetoric between political leaders, especially during high-stakes parliamentary sessions.

As the Budget Session continues, the controversy is likely to deepen partisan divides, with both sides expected to trade further accusations over conduct, decorum, and political accountability.
