Ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has issued a detailed traffic and travel advisory to ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims, tourists, and local commuters during the pilgrimage period from July 3 to August 28.
According to the advisory, special traffic restrictions have been imposed on civilian vehicle movement through the Navyug Tunnel to facilitate the safe passage of Yatra convoys. Authorities have urged all travelers to strictly adhere to the prescribed regulations and timings to avoid inconvenience.
As per the guidelines, vehicles travelling from Kashmir towards Jammu will not be permitted to cross the Navyug Tunnel before 11:30 AM on any day during the Yatra period. Similarly, vehicles moving from Jammu towards Kashmir will not be allowed to enter the tunnel after 3 PM.
The advisory also outlines specific cut-off timings at key locations in the Valley. Vehicles travelling from Mir Bazar towards Srinagar and Anantnag must cross the designated points before 4 PM. Those heading towards the Navyug Tunnel are required to pass through before 5 PM.
Police officials stated that the restrictions are aimed at ensuring the safe and uninterrupted movement of Amarnath Yatra convoys while minimizing traffic congestion along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. Travelers have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with traffic authorities deployed along the route.
The annual Amarnath Yatra, one of the country's most significant Hindu pilgrimages, attracts thousands of devotees from across India every year. Security and traffic arrangements are being strengthened to facilitate a safe and orderly pilgrimage during the nearly two-month-long event.
