Indian Embassy in Tehran Issues Advisory Amidst Ongoing Protests in Iran

The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a new advisory for Indian nationals residing in or visiting Iran, in response to the evolving security situation as protests continue across various parts of the country. This notice builds upon an earlier alert issued on January 5, 2025, and contains urgent guidelines for the Indian community.

Key Advisory: Depart if Possible

In a significant escalation of its previous guidance, the embassy has explicitly advised all Indian citizens currently in Iran—including students, pilgrims, businesspersons, and tourists—to consider leaving the country if possible. The embassy stated that departures should be arranged via any available means, with commercial flights being the primary option.

This recommendation underscores the mission's assessment of the potential risks associated with the ongoing civil unrest.

Exercise Vigilance and Avoid Protest Areas

The advisory strongly urges all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in Iran to exercise extreme caution. They are advised to:

  • Avoid areas where protests, rallies, or large gatherings are occurring.

  • Monitor local news and media closely for real-time updates on the security environment.

  • Remain vigilant in their daily movements.

Maintain Communication and Document Readiness

The embassy has stressed the importance of maintaining open channels of communication:

  • Indian nationals are requested to remain in regular contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

  • It is crucial for individuals to stay reachable on their registered contact details for emergency updates.

  • All should keep their passports, Iranian residency documents, and other identification papers secure and readily accessible at all times.

For any assistance related to documentation, nationals are encouraged to contact the embassy directly.

Mandatory Registration Urged

A critical part of the advisory is the mandatory registration for all Indian nationals in Iran. Those who have not yet registered are urgently requested to do so at the Ministry of External Affairs' registration portal: www.meaers.com/request/home. The link is also available on the embassy's official website.

Recognizing the possibility of internet disruptions within Iran, the embassy has made a special provision: Family members in India can complete the registration on behalf of their relatives in Iran.

Emergency Contact Information

For immediate assistance, the embassy has shared the following dedicated emergency contacts:

  • Mobile Numbers:

    • +98 912 810 9115

    • +98 912 810 9109

    • +98 912 810 9102

    • +98 993 217 9359

  • Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in

The Indian Embassy continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates as necessary. The primary objective remains ensuring the safety and well-being of every Indian national in Iran.
