India once again delivered a strong and unequivocal message to Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), asserting that Islamabad cannot escape accountability for its continued support to cross-border terrorism. Addressing the UNSC Open Debate on “Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-Centred International Framework,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, sharply criticised Pakistan for nurturing extremist elements and destabilising the region through terrorism.
Speaking at the high-level debate, Ambassador Harish stated that Pakistan’s long-standing policy of sponsoring terrorism directly contradicts the principles of the UN Charter. He asserted that India retains every sovereign right to defend itself against terrorist aggression and warned that Pakistan “will have to accept that there are consequences to its sponsorship of cross-border terrorism.”
India’s remarks came amid renewed attempts by Pakistan to internationalise the issue of Jammu and Kashmir. Harish emphasised that Pakistan’s policy of supporting radicalisation, anti-India propaganda and terror groups has continued since its creation. Referring to Pakistan’s doctrine of “bleeding India by a thousand cuts,” he said the strategy exposes the hollowness of Islamabad’s claims of respecting international peace and the UN framework.
The Indian envoy further pointed out that Pakistan’s history is marked by repeated wars, unprovoked aggression and sustained terror campaigns against India. According to him, such actions violate the core principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and peaceful coexistence that form the foundation of the United Nations Charter.
India also rejected recent references to Jammu and Kashmir made in a joint statement issued by China and Pakistan. Responding to media queries, Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India and that no external party has any locus standi to comment on these territories.
Jaiswal further stressed that India firmly opposes efforts to legitimise Pakistan’s illegal occupation of territories linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He noted that India has consistently conveyed its objections to both Pakistan and China regarding projects undertaken in areas under illegal occupation.
At the UNSC debate, Ambassador Harish also reminded the international community about the historical context of India-Pakistan relations. He said Independent India began its journey while confronting cross-border attacks launched from Pakistan, which sought to seize territories that had legally acceded to India. He underlined that Pakistan must permanently abandon terrorism as an instrument of state policy and dismantle the infrastructure supporting extremist groups.
India’s latest intervention at the United Nations reflects New Delhi’s increasingly assertive diplomatic posture on terrorism and national security. By raising the issue at a global platform, India sought to reinforce the message that terrorism cannot be justified under any circumstances and that countries sponsoring such activities must be held accountable under international law.
The remarks also come at a time when India has been actively engaging with global powers on counter-terrorism cooperation and regional stability. New Delhi has repeatedly maintained that meaningful dialogue with Pakistan is impossible unless Islamabad takes credible and irreversible action against terror networks operating from its soil.
India’s strong response at the UN underscores its determination to challenge Pakistan diplomatically while reiterating that issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir remain strictly internal matters of the country.
