Union Home Minister & Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah addressed an important press conference held in Kolkata, West Bengal on Tuesday, and declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party will uproot the Trinamool from its roots and form the government in West Bengal in 2026 with a two-thirds majority. During the event, West Bengal BJP President Shri Shamik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Shri Suvendu Adhikari, Union Minister Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, and Union Minister Shri Shantanu Thakur were present.
Shri Shah highlighted that December 30 is a day of great pride for all Indians, as it was on this very day in 1943 that Bengal’s son and great freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose hoisted the flag of a free India for the first time in Port Blair, marking a defining moment in India’s freedom struggle. Eight decades later, when we look back today, this date also holds special significance for Bengal. The period from now until April is decisive for the state, as Assembly elections are scheduled there in April. The people of West Bengal clearly aspire to form a strong government based on heritage, development, and welfare of the poor, instead of the politics of fear, corruption, misgovernance, and infiltration. During 15 years of TMC rule, the people of Bengal have become worried, fearful and uncertain due to the grip of fear, corruption, misrule, and especially the menace of illegal infiltration.
Union Home Minister remarked that all Karyakartas of the Bharatiya Janata Party want to give an assurance and a promise to the people of Bengal that once a BJP government is formed in West Bengal under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, the heritage of this land will be revived and the Ganga of development will once again flow at a rapid pace. Welfare of the poor has today become an extremely important issue in Bengal, and wherever NDA governments and BJP governments are in power across the country, welfare of the poor has been given the highest priority. Similarly, in Bengal too, welfare of the poor will be prioritised. Once our government comes to power, a strong national security grid will be created that will completely end infiltration from Bengal. Such a robust system will be put in place that not only humans, but even birds will not be able to cross. Not only will infiltration be stopped, but the BJP government in Bengal will also work to selectively identify and expel all infiltrators from India.
Shri Shah noted that today, due to corruption under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the development of the entire Bengal has virtually come to a halt. All the beneficial schemes of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, which are working towards poverty eradication across the country, have fallen prey to toll syndicates in Bengal, and every scheme has reached a dead end. For the past 15 years, fear and corruption have become the identity of Bengal. It is the resolve of the BJP that after 15 April 2026, when a BJP government is formed in Bengal, the resurgence of Bengal’s pride and Bengal’s culture will once again begin, and efforts will be renewed to realise the Bengal envisioned by Swami Vivekananda, Bankim Babu, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, and Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
Union Home Minister & Minister of Cooperation highlighted that today he once again wants to make it clear that for the Bharatiya Janata Party, the land of Bengal holds immense sanctity and special significance, because even before the formation of the BJP, the Bharatiya Jana Sangh was founded on this very land by the great leader Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The BJP has imbibed the thoughts and ideals of Swami Vivekananda and Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay into all its principles. Shri Shah said that when he states that the BJP will form the government in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, there is a strong and solid basis behind this claim. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP received 17 percent of the votes and won only two seats. In the 2016 Assembly elections, the party received 10 percent votes and secured merely three seats in the Assembly. Thereafter, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP received 41 percent of the votes and won 18 seats, while in the 2021 Assembly elections, the party received 38 percent votes and won 77 seats. This change is extremely significant, because a party that once won only three seats succeeded in winning 77 seats within a span of just five years.
Shri Shah asserted that the Congress, which in a way had its beginnings in Bengal itself, has today been reduced to zero. The Communist alliance, which ruled for 34 years, also failed to secure even a single seat, while the BJP emerged as the main opposition. BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Shri Suvendu Adhikari, is sitting here. In the 2024 elections, the BJP received approximately 39 percent votes and won 12 seats. In 2026, the BJP will certainly form the government in Bengal with a massive mandate. The period from 2024 till now has proved extremely auspicious for the BJP. In 2024, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji became the Prime Minister of the country for the third consecutive time. Thereafter, BJP governments were formed in Maharashtra, Haryana, Delhi, and now Bihar as well. In the 2024 elections, BJP and NDA governments were also formed with full majorities in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. We are fully confident that in 2026, the BJP will form the government in Bengal with a two-thirds majority, because the people of Bengal have already made this decision.
Union Home Minister pointed out that wherever he goes in Bengal, he sees people across the state distressed by infiltration. Can there be any state government that turns its own state into a refuge for infiltrators? How big a threat this is to national security should be answered by the Chief Minister of Bengal. What is Mamata Banerjee’s plan to stop infiltration in Bengal? When Article 370 was removed, she opposed it. When the Citizenship Amendment Act was introduced to grant citizenship to refugees in Bengal, she opposed that as well, and then she evaded responsibility by saying that the BSF is unable to stop infiltration. Mamata Banerjee should clarify which government is not providing land for fencing along the entire border with Bangladesh. It is the TMC government that is not providing land, due to which the fencing work cannot be completed. If an infiltrator enters through such a difficult border, the first place he reaches is a village in Bengal. What is the local revenue official doing there? What is the police station in that area doing? Why is he not arrested? Why is a case not registered against him, and why is he not sent back?
Shri Shah stated that can the Chief Minister of Bengal answer why infiltration has stopped in Assam, why it has stopped in Tripura, why there is no infiltration on the borders of Gujarat and Rajasthan, why there is no infiltration on the Punjab border, and why there is no infiltration on the Kashmir border, while this problem persists only in Bengal? The reason is that infiltration is being facilitated under her supervision and attempts are being made to gradually change the demography of Bengal to strengthen their vote bank. However, this will not continue for long. The people of Bengal have now understood this reality and are mobilising against it. The BJP believes that the next election will be fought on the issue of stopping infiltration and expelling infiltrators, because this has now become not just an issue of Bengal but one of national security. To protect the country’s culture and ensure national security, the Bengal border must be completely sealed, and for this, a patriotic government must be brought to power that can accomplish this task. Mamata Banerjee cannot do this; this can be done only and only by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Launching a scathing attack on the Trinamool government, Union Home and Minister of Cooperation remarked that apart from infiltration, the people of Bengal are also distressed by corruption. There are so many cases such as the Rose Valley chit fund scam, cash-for-query scam, SSC scam, recruitment scams in municipalities and municipal corporations, cattle smuggling scam, ration and PDS scam, MGNREGA scam, and PM Awas scam that if the complete list is read out, the entire press conference would be consumed by it alone. Can Mamata Banerjee answer how ₹27 crore in cash is recovered from the premises of her ministers, to the extent that even note-counting machines overheat and shut down while counting the money? Does the recovery of amounts like ₹27 crore, ₹20 crore, and ₹15 crore in the state not indicate any accountability? Partha Chatterjee goes to jail, Jyotipriya Mallick goes to jail, Anubrata Mandal goes to jail, Jiban Krishna Saha goes to jail, Manik Bhattacharya goes to jail, Chandranath Sinha goes to jail, Paresh Pal goes to jail, Kuntal Ghosh goes to jail, Firhad Hakim is made an accused, and Shobhan Chatterjee is also made an accused. Kunal Ghosh spends three years in jail, and even after that it is said that no corruption has taken place. The Bengal government is sitting with its eyes closed on corruption, but the people of Bengal are not sitting with their eyes closed. Money meant for the people of Bengal is being sacrificed at the altar of Trinamool Congress cadres, and the government will have to answer for this.
Shri Shah said that officially it is stated in West Bengal that women should not step out of their homes after 7 pm in the evening. In which era is West Bengal living—is this the Mughal period? In independent India, providing security to mothers and sisters to step out of their homes throughout the day whenever required is a constitutional duty, which the TMC government has completely failed to fulfil. Whether it is the RG Kar Medical College case, the Sandeshkhali case, the Durgapur Medical College case, or the South Kolkata Law College case, daughters are unsafe everywhere, and mothers and sisters are fed up with atrocities and insecurity. Now the people are waiting for the day when they will get the right to vote and remove this incompetent Trinamool Congress government from power. Mamata Banerjee’s TMC government has adopted communal appeasement as its policy. Now attempts are being made to apply ointment, but nothing will come of it, because the wounds inflicted on the hearts of Bengal’s Hindus are so deep that no ointment of the Trinamool will work anymore. The time for Mamata Banerjee’s departure has now been decided, because she has crossed every limit. The situation has reached such a point that when Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and which was the inspiration for the entire freedom movement, is discussed in Parliament, the Trinamool Congress opposes even that discussion. This is done because their vote bank is getting upset. But the people of West Bengal will never tolerate this insult.
Union Home Minister asserted that there was a time when Bengal’s contribution to India’s GDP was 10.5 percent, and in terms of contribution, Bengal stood third in the country. Bengal, which stood at third place, has slipped to 22nd position over the last 49 years, and now there is no place left below it to fall further. Such an economic downfall of Bengal has never happened before. Mamata Banerjee will have to answer for this. Once upon a time, every kind of industry originated from this fertile land, and on that basis the concept of ‘Sonar Bangla’ was envisioned. But today, due to corruption, infiltration, and extortion, industries are migrating out of Bengal. The TMC government fears losing its vote bank while implementing central government schemes. The PM-Kisan scheme was implemented with delay, causing a loss of ₹10,000 crore to Bengal’s farmers.
Shri Shah noted that the Ayushman Bharat scheme has not been implemented till date, and instead, the flawed Swasthya Sathi scheme has been introduced. He said that if a Bengali citizen travels outside Bengal to any other part of the country and falls ill, will the Swasthya Sathi scheme be able to provide treatment in hospitals outside the state? What crime have the poor of Bengal committed? Poor people across the country are getting a guarantee of healthcare treatment up to ₹5 lakh, and many states have added an additional ₹5 lakh from their own side to the Centre’s ₹5 lakh. But the Trinamool government of Bengal does not want to accept the Centre’s ₹5 lakh, because the TMC government is afraid of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji. This fear is natural, because the popularity of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji is increasing day by day in Bengal, but due to this fear, the poor of Bengal are suffering losses. The entire country had hoped that after the end of Communist rule, politics of violence and revenge would also end, but the opposite happened. The situation has become such that Trinamool Congress rule has forced people to say that Communist rule was better than this.
Union Home Minister highlighted that so far more than 300 BJP Karyakartas have been killed. After the 2021 elections, approximately 3,000 Karyakartas are still forced to live a displaced life and have not been able to return to their villages. Pressure is exerted on them that only if they hoist the Trinamool Congress flag will they be allowed to live in their villages. Is this a sign of a healthy democracy, where a person cannot freely choose their political ideology or party? Will it be decided from the Chief Minister’s chamber who will work for which party? Mamata Banerjee may inflict as much harassment as she wants, but the people of Bengal have now made up their minds. BJP Karyakartas have been harassed in every possible manner; incidents as serious as rape of women have also taken place. This is not his personal allegation, but is mentioned in the report of the National Human Rights Commission, and Mamata Banerjee will have to answer for it. Mamata Banerjee has dismantled all constitutional norms in West Bengal. When Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji visits any state, he does so as the Prime Minister of the entire country; even in states where the BJP is not in power, such behaviour is not seen as was displayed towards him in West Bengal. When the popular Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji comes to Bengal to inaugurate the Vande Bharat train, Mamata Banerjee does not even go to the stage. Even the DoPT guidelines of the Government of India, formulated under Supreme Court orders, are twisted and violated. Arbitrary appointments are made in the positions of DGPs and Chief Secretaries, and after retirement they are made advisors to install proxy DGPs and proxy Chief Secretaries. Thirty-four years of Communist rule and 15 years of Trinamool Congress rule together have promoted an anti-Centre mindset and have completely disrespected the constitutional spirit on which the country functions.
Shri Shah asserted that under Mamata Banerjee’s rule, syndicates, extortion, and cut money have not only been promoted within the system, but the right to earn exists only with ‘Bhaipo’, and no one else has the right to earn. If anyone earns in West Bengal, they are forced to give a share of their earnings to the Trinamool syndicate. Bengal was once at the forefront of the country in every sector. The country’s first motor factory was established in West Bengal, the first power plant was set up in Bengal in 1887, the coal industry first came to Bengal, the first steel plant was established here, the country’s first high-rise building was built in Bengal, the first jute mill was established in Bengal, and the country’s first metro train also ran in Bengal. Bengal also has the distinction of being the only place in the country to have two ports in a single city. The country’s first modern university, Calcutta University, and the world-renowned Visva-Bharati University, which brought the concept of Indian education to the ground, were both established in Bengal. Mamata Banerjee should not take pride in these achievements, because none of them occurred during her tenure. The Mamata Banerjee government has broken the rhythm, momentum, and speed of development created by those who took Bengal to the heights of progress. West Bengal today has been completely ruined industrially, and this situation has developed under her rule alone. Where Communist rule caused partial damage, the Trinamool Congress government has completely destroyed it. Due to syndicate rule, extortion, and a hostile environment, more than 7,000 companies left Bengal for other states between 2011 and 2025, which is a massive blow to Bengal’s economic development.
Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation noted that West Bengal is the land of great personalities like Swami Vivekananda, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, Maharshi Aurobindo, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. On this very land, heroes like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, martyr Khudiram Bose, Bagha Jatin, Rash Behari Bose, Master Surya Sen, Prafulla Chaki, Binoy Basu, and Kalpana Dutt awakened the masses for India’s freedom. This land has also produced great filmmakers, musicians, painters, and saints who influenced the world. That same Bengal has today reached such a precipice that if the winds of infiltration are not stopped, Bengal’s very existence will come under threat. All those who understand society and public life clearly acknowledge this. Not only is there a crisis of infiltration threatening Bengal’s existence, but Bengal’s culture is also under serious threat from infiltration, and now this crisis is no longer limited to Bengal alone but has spread across the entire country.
Shri Shah remarked that he wants to make a humble appeal to the people of West Bengal. They gave Congress opportunities for a long time, gave the Communist Party an opportunity for 34 years, and Mamata Banerjee an opportunity for 15 years. The track record of all of them has been to continuously push Bengal downward, and now there is no place left below to fall. In contrast, the record of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been that wherever BJP governments have been formed, backward states have moved towards prosperity. Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, the entire country is moving forward, becoming more secure, and India’s culture, religion, and languages are continuously flourishing. Form a Bharatiya Janata Party government with a full majority and a massive mandate under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji. Only the Bharatiya Janata Party can build the Sonar Bangla envisioned by Gurudev Tagore and Swami Vivekananda.
