The Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) is a stellar example of this commitment to self-reliance. Developed by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the Tejas has not only been successfully inducted into the IAF but has also garnered international attention. Against this backdrop, it cannot be gainsaid that Prime Minister Modi's government has been instrumental in fostering a robust domestic defence industry ecosystem. Initiatives such as 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' have encouraged collaboration between public and private sectors, driving innovation and the development of cutting-edge defence technologies. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's active engagement in promoting India's defence industry is evident. He has personally inaugurated defence manufacturing units, emphasised research and development, and advocated for defence startups. This has not only created employment opportunities but has also enhanced the nation's capability to manufacture world-class defence equipment.

Traditionally a defence importer, India is now on the path to becoming a defence exporter. The success of defence exports, particularly in the form of the BrahMos missile system and the Tejas fighter jet, has been remarkable. The Indian Air Force has undergone significant modernisation under the Modi government. Investments have been made in acquiring state-of-the-art aircraft, radar systems, and electronic warfare capabilities. The acquisition of the Rafale fighter jets from France is a testament to India's commitment to maintaining a formidable air force. Additionally, the government has focused on enhancing the operational readiness and infrastructure of the IAF.
