IAEA Confirms No Radiation Leak from Pakistani Nuclear Facilities Amid Conflict

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has quelled concerns over alleged radiation leaks from Pakistan's nuclear facilities following recent military tensions with India. Amidst widespread claims circulating on social media, the IAEA clarified that there has been no radiation leak or release from any nuclear facility in Pakistan.

A spokesperson for the IAEA, responding to inquiries from news agency PTI, stated, "Based on information available to the IAEA, there has been no radiation leak or release from any nuclear facility in Pakistan." This statement comes amidst speculations fueled by social media chatter, particularly following Indian military strikes on Sargodha air base during Operation Sindoor.

Indian authorities have denied targeting Kirana Hills, despite reports linking the strikes to an airbase potentially linked to underground nuclear storage facilities in the region. Air Marshal AK Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, emphasized in a recent press conference, "We did not target Kirana Hills. Thank you for informing us of its significance."

The distance between Sargodha Air Base and Kirana Hills, where reports of smoke were observed, underscores concerns about the security and integrity of Pakistan's nuclear assets. Experts suggest that if the underground storage bunkers at Kirana Hills were impacted, it could pose challenges for Pakistan in accessing its nuclear arsenal, including fissile materials and warheads.

Meanwhile, India's External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, dismissed claims by US President Donald Trump of averting a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan. Jaiswal reiterated that India's military actions were strictly within the conventional domain, refuting any notions of an impending nuclear confrontation.

The IAEA's confirmation provides crucial clarity amidst heightened tensions, assuring global stakeholders of the safety and security protocols surrounding nuclear facilities in Pakistan. As both nations navigate diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, the focus remains on ensuring stability in the region while upholding international standards in nuclear safety and security.
