Gujarat’s Special Intensive Revision Gains Pace as Enumeration Forms Reach Over Five Crore Voters

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Gujarat has entered a crucial phase, with enumeration forms now distributed to more than five crore voters across the state. The massive exercise, undertaken by the Election Commission of India (ECI), aims to update and streamline the electoral roll ahead of upcoming polls, ensuring accuracy and inclusiveness.

To further accelerate the process, the Election Commission will organise Taluka-level camps across Gujarat on November 29 and 30, providing citizens with an accessible platform to verify their details, submit corrections, or apply for inclusion in the voter list.

Digitisation Drive in Full Swing

Alongside the field-level enumeration, the digitisation of electoral forms is progressing rapidly in all districts. The Dang district has emerged as a frontrunner in this effort, recording an impressive 85.53% digitisation rate, the highest in the state.

Officials say the swift digitisation is crucial for improving the accuracy of electoral rolls and speeding up verification procedures. Teams across Gujarat have intensified data entry and verification work to keep pace with the SIR timeline.

Significant Cleanup of Voter Records

The ongoing revision campaign has already produced notable results in improving the quality of the voter list. According to the Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office, the SIR exercise has:

  • Identified over 10 lakh deceased voters

  • Flagged more than 11 lakh voters who have permanently migrated

  • Marked over 1.44 lakh duplicate entries for corrective action

These measures aim to ensure that the electoral roll remains clean, accurate, and reflective of the current population, reducing the chances of errors and discrepancies during elections.

Public Urged to Participate in Taluka-Level Camps

The CEO’s office has appealed to all eligible voters—particularly new voters, migrants, and those needing corrections—to take full advantage of the Taluka-level camps scheduled for November 29 and 30. These camps will offer on-the-spot assistance for:

  • New voter registrations

  • Correction of personal details

  • Address changes

  • Deletion of ineligible entries

  • Linking of Aadhaar with voter ID (voluntary)

With Gujarat's voter revision drive moving at a strong pace, officials emphasise that public participation remains key to building an accurate and transparent electoral roll.

The Special Intensive Revision is expected to conclude with a comprehensive and updated voter list, strengthening the integrity of the electoral process across the state.
