In a significant step towards encouraging girls' education, the Gujarat government introduced the "Namo Lakshmi Yojana" earlier this year. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to girl students in secondary and higher secondary education. It applies to those studying under the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Eligibility Criteria
The scheme offers support to girls entering Class 9 under the following conditions:
1. The student must have completed Class 8 in a government or grant-in-aid primary school and be seeking admission in Class 9.
2. Alternatively, girls who completed Class 1 to Class 8 in a recognized private primary school under the Right to Education (RTE) Act and are now entering Class 9 will also be eligible.
3. Additionally, students whose family income is less than ₹6 lakh per year will qualify for the scheme.
Financial Assistance Under the Scheme
The Namo Lakshmi Yojana provides a total financial aid of up to ₹50,000 for each eligible girl, covering education from Class 9 to Class 12. The breakdown is as follows:
For Class 9 and 10
For Class 11 and 12

Implementation and Portal
To ensure the smooth implementation of this scheme, a dedicated "Namo Lakshmi" portal will be launched. This portal will facilitate easy access to information, application, and tracking of benefits for the eligible students. By launching this scheme, the Gujarat government aims to promote girls’ education and reduce financial barriers, ensuring that more girls have access to secondary and higher secondary schooling, thus contributing to a more empowered and educated society.
