GST Collections Jump 13.9% to ₹1.94 Lakh Crore in June

India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections recorded a robust growth in June, reflecting sustained economic activity and improved tax compliance. According to provisional data released by the Finance Ministry, gross GST collections for the month stood at ₹1,94,812 crore, registering a 13.9 per cent year-on-year increase compared to ₹1,71,105 crore collected in June 2025.

The healthy rise in GST revenues comes as a positive indicator for the country's fiscal position, with stronger domestic consumption and a sharp increase in tax collections from imports contributing to the overall performance.

Gross domestic GST revenue reached ₹1,34,774 crore during the month, marking a 6.5 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year. The steady growth in domestic collections points to continued resilience in economic activity across sectors despite global uncertainties.

A major contributor to the surge in overall GST collections was the sharp rise in revenues from imports. GST collections from imported goods climbed 34.6 per cent year-on-year to ₹60.38 crore, significantly boosting the monthly tax mop-up. The increase reflects higher import activity and improved revenue realization from cross-border trade.

The latest figures underscore the government's efforts to strengthen tax administration through enhanced compliance measures, digital monitoring, and anti-evasion initiatives under the GST regime. Analysts believe that sustained growth in GST collections also indicates healthy business transactions and improving consumer demand.

GST collections have remained one of the key indicators of the country's economic momentum, offering insights into manufacturing, services, trade, and consumption patterns. The consistent rise in monthly revenues provides greater fiscal space for the government to pursue infrastructure development, welfare programmes, and capital expenditure.

The Finance Ministry noted that the figures are provisional and may undergo revisions as additional returns are filed and reconciled. However, the strong performance in June reinforces confidence in the stability of India's indirect tax system and its contribution to government revenues.

With both domestic economic activity and import-related tax collections showing healthy growth, the latest GST data signals continued resilience in the Indian economy and strengthens expectations of steady revenue generation in the coming months.
