ED Conducts Fresh Raids in SSC Recruitment Scam; Searches Linked to Partha Chatterjee

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday carried out fresh searches in connection with an ongoing money laundering probe into the alleged teachers’ recruitment scam in West Bengal. The action comes as part of the agency’s continued investigation into irregularities in recruitment through the School Service Commission (SSC).

According to officials, the ED conducted searches at two locations in Kolkata, including the residence of former West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and the office premises linked to Prasanna Kumar Roy, who is currently in judicial custody. The agency stated that these searches are aimed at collecting further evidence in the case.

The ED also revealed that Chatterjee had been issued summons on three separate occasions to appear before the Investigating Officer in connection with the SSC recruitment scam. However, he failed to comply with any of the notices, prompting the agency to intensify its probe.

Chatterjee was earlier arrested by the ED in July 2022 in relation to the Primary Teachers Recruitment Scam. He was subsequently granted conditional bail by the Supreme Court of India in early 2025. Despite his release, investigative agencies continue to examine multiple allegations tied to recruitment irregularities during his tenure.

Officials said that several cases are currently under investigation against Chatterjee, spanning alleged irregularities in the recruitment of primary teachers, SSC assistant teachers, as well as Group C and Group D staff. The ED emphasized that the latest searches are part of its broader effort to uncover the money trail and establish the extent of financial misconduct in the scam.

The SSC recruitment scam has remained one of the most high-profile cases in West Bengal in recent years, drawing significant political and public attention. With fresh searches underway, the investigation appears set to deepen further in the coming days.
