Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the UP International Trade Show (UPITS) on Thursday at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, projecting a vision of a resilient and self-reliant India that continues to be a beacon of growth despite global headwinds.
Speaking at the inaugural event, the Prime Minister underscored India's economic resilience, stating, "Despite the global disruptions and uncertainties, India's growth is attractive. Disruptions don't hinder us, but even in those circumstances, we look for new directions." He emphasized that amid global challenges, India is strategically strengthening the foundations for the coming decades.
Central to this vision is the government's unwavering focus on the 'Make in India' initiative. PM Modi articulated a bold ambition for the nation's manufacturing sector: to produce everything "from chip to ship" within the country. "Our resolve and mantra is Atmanirbhar Bharat. Nothing can be more helpless than being dependent on others. The more a country stays dependent on others, the more its growth is going to be compromised," he asserted.
Uttar Pradesh: The Engine of Self-Reliance
The Prime Minister highlighted Uttar Pradesh's pivotal role in this national mission. He revealed that the state alone accounts for a staggering 55% of all mobile phones manufactured in India, establishing it as a hub for electronics production. Furthermore, he positioned UP as a crucial player in strengthening the nation’s self-reliance in the critical semiconductor sector.
The trade show itself is a testament to growing international confidence in India's market and manufacturing capabilities. With over 2,250 exhibitors showcasing their products and services, the event has designated Russia as its 'Country Partner'. PM Modi noted that this reflects the "further strengthening of the time-tested partnership" between the two nations.
Armed Forces Push for 'Swadeshi'
In a significant announcement, Prime Minister Modi revealed a strong push for indigenization within the country's defence forces. "Our defence forces want 'swadeshi', they want to decrease the dependence on other countries. We are developing a vibrant defence sector in India," he said.
He outlined a comprehensive plan to build an ecosystem where "every part of our weapons has 'Made in India' inscribed on them." Uttar Pradesh is set to be a cornerstone of this defence manufacturing revolution. Key projects include:
The imminent start of production of the AK-203 rifle from a factory set up in Amethi with Russian collaboration.
The establishment of a dedicated defence corridor across the state.
The ongoing production of advanced weapon systems like the BrahMos missiles within UP.
The UP International Trade Show 2025 is poised to be an even larger platform, with expectations to host over 2,500 exhibitors, 500 foreign buyers, and more than half a million visitors. The event signals not just the economic rise of Uttar Pradesh, but also India's determined march towards becoming a global manufacturing and strategic power.
