DRI Seizes Over 24 Kg of Narcotics in Kerala Under Operation Chakravyuh, Five Arrested

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking networks in Kerala, seizing more than 24 kilograms of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances during a series of coordinated operations conducted under Operation Chakravyuh. The Ministry of Finance announced that the operations were carried out across Kochi, Malappuram, and Thiruvananthapuram, leading to the recovery of significant quantities of illicit substances and the arrest of five individuals linked to trafficking networks.

According to the Ministry, the seized contraband included methaqualone, methamphetamine, and hashish oil, all of which were allegedly intended for illegal distribution and trafficking. The operation was part of a broader effort by enforcement agencies to dismantle organized drug syndicates operating in the region and curb the spread of narcotics.

Authorities said that five persons, including key operatives believed to be involved in the trafficking chain, were apprehended during the raids. The arrests were made under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, which prescribes stringent penalties for drug-related offences. Investigators are now examining the network's supply routes, distribution channels, and possible interstate and international connections.

The latest seizures highlight the growing challenge posed by narcotics trafficking in Kerala and underscore the government's determination to tackle the menace through intelligence-driven enforcement actions. Officials noted that the coordinated nature of the operation reflects enhanced surveillance and information-sharing mechanisms adopted by the DRI to identify and disrupt drug trafficking activities.

The Ministry of Finance also highlighted the achievements of the DRI’s Cochin Zonal Unit during the previous financial year. During this period, the unit seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances valued at more than ₹70 crore across Kerala. In connection with various cases registered under the NDPS Act, 21 individuals were arrested, demonstrating the agency’s sustained efforts against drug smuggling and distribution networks.

Drug trafficking remains a major concern for law enforcement agencies due to its links with organized crime, money laundering, and other illicit activities. Officials believe that continued vigilance and coordinated enforcement actions are essential to prevent narcotics from reaching vulnerable communities, particularly young people.

Reaffirming its commitment to combating the drug trade, the Ministry stated that the DRI remains steadfast in its mission to protect society from the harmful effects of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The agency's ongoing operations are aligned with the government's vision of creating a Drug-Free India, focusing on disrupting trafficking networks, strengthening enforcement capabilities, and ensuring stricter implementation of anti-narcotics laws.

With Operation Chakravyuh yielding significant results, authorities have indicated that further investigations and follow-up actions are underway to identify additional members of the trafficking networks and prevent the circulation of illegal drugs in the country.
