The long-running mystery surrounding the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s former manager Disha Salian has entered a new phase, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registering an FIR following the Bombay High Court’s directions. The development could pave the way for a detailed examination of the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death, which was initially recorded as an accidental death and has remained the subject of questions and competing claims for years.
The death of Disha Salian, the former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, is once again at the centre of public attention after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR on Monday in compliance with directions issued by the Bombay High Court. The move marks a significant step towards a fresh and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Salian’s death in 2020.
Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from the roof of a building in Mumbai. Her death occurred just six days before Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14. The close timing of the two deaths has fuelled public speculation for years, although the circumstances and investigations into the two cases have been separate.
The latest development follows the Bombay High Court’s decision directing the CBI to register an FIR and investigate the circumstances of Salian’s death. A Division Bench comprising Justice Bharti Dangre and Justice Manjusha Deshpande had questioned why the matter had remained recorded only as an Accidental Death Report (ADR), particularly in view of allegations made by Salian’s family.
The court also took note of concerns regarding access to important documents. According to the proceedings, Salian’s family had not received copies of the post-mortem report and ADR even several years after her death.
The CBI’s registration of the FIR now formally begins an investigation under the agency’s mandate. The agency is expected to examine the available evidence, statements and circumstances surrounding the incident before drawing any conclusions.
Salian’s father, Satish Salian, has maintained that he wants the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death to be examined thoroughly. Following the court’s order, he said that he had already shared information with investigating authorities and provided details that he believed could assist the probe.
In an interaction with ANI, Satish said he had given investigators the information available to him and identified several people whom he wanted the authorities to question. He said the names included Aditya, Sooraj Pancholi and Dino Morea, besides bodyguards.
The naming of individuals by Salian’s father does not, by itself, establish wrongdoing by any of them. Their relevance, if any, will have to be determined through the investigation and evidence gathered by the CBI.
The case has continued to attract public interest because Salian’s death preceded Rajput’s by less than a week. Over the years, various theories have circulated in the public domain, but the CBI investigation now provides an opportunity to establish the facts through a formal examination of the evidence.
The agency’s task will be to reconstruct the events leading up to Salian’s death, examine the circumstances at the location, scrutinise available forensic and medical material, and record statements wherever necessary.
The investigation could also revisit material from the earlier inquiry and assess whether there are any inconsistencies or unanswered questions that require further examination.
The latest development has also drawn a response from Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister Shweta Singh Kirti. She expressed hope that the investigation would help bring clarity to the case and welcomed the CBI’s involvement.
Her reaction reflects the continued interest among Rajput’s supporters, many of whom have sought answers regarding the events surrounding the deaths of both Rajput and Salian.
For now, the registration of the FIR represents the beginning rather than the conclusion of the process. The CBI will have to establish the sequence of events and determine whether the evidence supports the existing account of Salian’s death or points towards circumstances requiring further legal action.
With the High Court’s intervention and the CBI now formally investigating the case, the focus shifts from years of speculation to evidence, witness statements and findings that can withstand legal scrutiny. The coming stages of the probe will therefore be closely watched by Salian’s family, Rajput’s supporters and the wider public.
