Digital India at 11: PM Modi Says Initiative Has Transformed Governance, Empowered Citizens

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the Digital India initiative has redefined governance, empowered citizens, and accelerated all-round development across the country as it completed 11 years since its launch.

Marking the milestone, the Prime Minister said Digital India has transformed every aspect of people's lives and emerged as a key driver of inclusive growth. He noted that the initiative has played a significant role in empowering the poor and the underprivileged while making public services more accessible and efficient.

Highlighting the achievements of the programme, Mr. Modi said the expansion of the optical fibre network and the rapid growth of digital transactions have drawn global attention to India's digital transformation. He added that seamless digital payment systems and Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT) have enhanced transparency and ensured that government benefits reach intended beneficiaries without leakages.

The Prime Minister said technology has become a powerful tool for improving the Ease of Living by simplifying access to government services and making governance more transparent and citizen-centric.

Emphasising the initiative's role in fostering innovation, Mr. Modi said Digital India has extended the benefits of technology to villages as well as Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. He noted that young entrepreneurs, start-ups and innovators from across the country are developing solutions to address some of the world's most pressing challenges.

He further said the initiative has strengthened key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, commerce and public service delivery, by leveraging digital technologies to improve accessibility and efficiency.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister said India's digital progress is laying a strong foundation for leadership in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors and quantum computing. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to building a future where technology serves humanity, empowers every citizen and contributes to sustainable development.
