Delhi Assembly Elections 2025 Exit Polls: AAP's Dream Run at Stake?

The just-concluded Delhi assembly elections have sparked intense speculation about the fate of Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the national capital. Exit polls, often viewed as a barometer of public sentiment, have presented a mixed bag of predictions, signaling potential challenges ahead for AAP.

Six out of seven exit polls suggest a downturn for AAP, with only one offering a glimmer of hope. Matrize, among the most conservative in its estimate, predicts AAP to secure a narrow lead with an outer margin of 37 seats — just two seats beyond the halfway mark of 35 needed in the 70-member assembly.

In contrast, the majority of exit polls indicate a shift in voter allegiance towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Four polls foresee BJP securing between 38 to 40-plus seats, while one outlier, People's Pulse, predicts a potential landslide victory with 51 to 60 seats for the BJP.

Aggregate polling data paints a challenging picture for AAP, projecting around 26 seats, significantly less than their current holding, while BJP emerges as a front-runner with approximately 43 seats. The Congress, once a dominant force in Delhi politics, is projected to secure a minimal presence, with predictions not exceeding three seats.

While exit polls are not infallible, recent history suggests their predictions often reflect electoral trends accurately. In the last two elections, they correctly anticipated AAP's victories, albeit underestimating the scale of their mandates.

The election campaign leading up to this pivotal moment has been marked by intense scrutiny of AAP's governance record, particularly focusing on allegations of corruption. AAP, originally propelled to power on the wings of the anti-corruption movement led by Gandhian Anna Hazare, has seen several of its prominent leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, embroiled in legal battles and spending time in judicial custody over corruption charges.

As Delhi awaits the election results, the political landscape appears poised for a potential shift, with AAP facing a stern test of its popularity and governance credibility. The verdict, when announced, will not only shape the future of Delhi's governance but also hold implications for national political dynamics.

The final outcome remains to be seen, yet one thing is certain — Delhi's electorate has made its voice heard, setting the stage for significant political developments in the days to come.
