The suspicious death of model Twisha Sharma in Bhopal has now been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Madhya Pradesh Home Department issued a notification transferring the case to the central agency following growing demands from the victim’s family and public pressure for an impartial inquiry.
Twisha Sharma was found dead at her residence in Katara Hills on May 12. The case was initially registered at Katara Hills police station under sections related to dowry death. Her family has consistently alleged that she was murdered and claimed that crucial evidence in the case was tampered with after her death.
The matter gained further attention after Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, met Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on May 20 along with a group of retired soldiers. During the meeting, the Chief Minister reportedly assured the family that the matter would be investigated by the CBI to ensure a fair and transparent probe.
Police have already registered a case against Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh and her mother-in-law Giribala Singh under sections related to dowry harassment. Giribala Singh, who is a retired judge, has been granted anticipatory bail by the court, while Samarth Singh’s bail application was rejected.
The in-laws have maintained that Twisha died by suicide, rejecting allegations of foul play. However, the victim’s family has demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, insisting that it was not a case of suicide.
The case has also drawn the attention of the National Commission for Women, which has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident. The Commission has sought a detailed action taken report from the Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police within seven days.
With the CBI now set to investigate the matter, the case is expected to undergo a deeper forensic and legal examination amid intense public scrutiny and demands for justice.
