A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday remanded Twisha Sharma’s husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, to 14 days of judicial custody until June 16 in connection with the investigation into her alleged suicide case.
The order came after the completion of the five-day CBI remand granted to the accused for custodial interrogation. The agency produced both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh before the special court following the expiry of their remand period. During the hearing, the CBI informed the court that it did not require any further custodial interrogation and requested that the accused be sent to judicial custody.
Accepting the agency’s request, the special court ordered that both accused remain in judicial custody until June 16. According to officials, the mother-son duo will be lodged at Bhopal Central Jail and kept separate from other inmates during their incarceration. The order was passed after a detailed hearing before the CBI Special Court.
The case relates to the death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, who allegedly died by suicide at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. The incident has attracted widespread public attention across the country after Twisha’s family accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to mental harassment and dowry-related abuse following her marriage in December 2025.
Prior to her arrest, Giribala Singh, a retired judge, had publicly denied all allegations levelled against her and her family. In several media interactions, she maintained her innocence and questioned claims made by Twisha’s family. She also raised concerns regarding aspects of Twisha’s mental health and medical history.
As part of the ongoing probe, the CBI has been closely examining the circumstances leading to Twisha’s death. On Monday, investigators visited the residence of Giribala Singh in Bhopal and conducted a crime scene reconstruction exercise. Officials reportedly used a dummy body to recreate the sequence of events and gather forensic and circumstantial evidence in the presence of both accused.
Earlier, a Bhopal court had granted the CBI five days of custody of Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh to facilitate detailed questioning and verification of evidence. The custody order was issued by Special Judge Shobhana Bhalave, allowing investigators to examine various aspects of the case.
The investigation has sparked significant public interest and led to demonstrations demanding justice for Twisha Sharma. On Sunday, a silent march was organised in Noida, where supporters, activists, and members of the public gathered to express solidarity with Twisha’s family and call for a thorough investigation.
Addressing participants during the march, Twisha’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, thanked supporters for standing by the family and expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation.
“This case has grown beyond Twisha alone. The overwhelming support we have received reflects a shared commitment to seeking the truth. We have full faith in the investigation and believe that justice will prevail,” he said.
The CBI investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death and examine the allegations made by her family. The case is expected to remain under close public scrutiny in the coming weeks.
