In a significant development aimed at bolstering India's semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, the government has approved the establishment of a state-of-the-art semiconductor unit near Jewar airport in Uttar Pradesh. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, briefing media in New Delhi today, announced that the unit will be set up under the India Semiconductor Mission through a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn.

    • Designed for 20,000 wafers per month

    • Output capacity of 36 million units per month

Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the strategic significance of this initiative, emphasizing that it marks a crucial step forward in India's journey to develop a robust semiconductor industry. Currently, five semiconductor units are already in advanced stages of construction, with the addition of this sixth unit further accelerating India's capabilities in semiconductor production.

Educational and Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

The Minister also underscored the role of India's academic institutions and startups in fostering innovation and technological advancement in semiconductor design. He noted that 270 academic institutions and 70 startups are actively engaged in cutting-edge design technologies, aimed at developing new products that meet global standards.

The approval of the semiconductor unit near Jewar airport not only signifies a major investment in India's technological infrastructure but also aligns with the country's ambitions to become self-reliant in critical technologies.
