BJP MPs from SC/ST Communities Meet PM Modi Over Supreme Court's Creamy Layer Observation

Today, BJP Members of Parliament belonging to the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities convened at Parliament House to discuss a crucial issue affecting their constituencies. The focal point of their meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the recent observation made by the Supreme Court regarding the implementation of the creamy layer principle for SCs and STs.

The MPs, led by BJP MP Bhola Singh, submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Modi expressing their concerns over the Supreme Court's viewpoint on the creamy layer criteria. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Bhola Singh emphasized that they have requested the Prime Minister not to implement the Supreme Court's observation.

"The observation regarding the creamy layer for SCs and STs is a matter of significant concern for us. We have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging that this decision should not be implemented," stated Bhola Singh.

The creamy layer principle, which is currently applied to Other Backward Classes (OBCs) for reservations in jobs and education, restricts certain sections within a community from availing reservation benefits based on their economic status. The Supreme Court's recent observation regarding its applicability to SCs and STs has sparked debate and concerns among political leaders representing these communities.

In response to the MPs' concerns, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured them that the Supreme Court's observation should be viewed as a legal perspective rather than a definitive decision. Modi reiterated that the government is committed to safeguarding the interests of all sections of society, particularly vulnerable communities like SCs and STs.

"The viewpoint expressed by the Supreme Court is a legal interpretation, and the government will examine all aspects before making any decision," assured Prime Minister Modi during the meeting.

The meeting between BJP MPs from SC/ST communities and Prime Minister Modi underscores the ongoing dialogue and deliberations within the government regarding policies affecting marginalized communities in India. As discussions continue, the political landscape remains attentive to potential legislative actions and administrative measures that may follow.
