On Monday, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar successfully proved his majority in the state assembly after winning a trust vote. The vote of confidence was conducted amidst a contentious atmosphere as the RJD-led Opposition walked out of the house minutes before the vote. Kumar, the leader of Janata Dal (United), accused Tejashwi Yadav's party of corruption, alleging they were involved in illicit financial activities.
In the absence of the Opposition, Kumar initially demonstrated his majority through a voice vote. However, he later insisted on manual voting. The trust vote concluded with Kumar securing 130 votes in favor of his government, with none opposing.
Nitish Kumar, who recently severed ties with the RJD and allied with the Bharatiya Janata Party, launched scathing attacks on Tejashwi Yadav's parents, Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi. He accused them of mismanagement during their tenure, citing lack of development and security issues in Bihar.
Kumar expressed his intention to launch a probe into alleged corruption by RJD leaders, emphasizing his disappointment upon discovering their malpractices despite the respect he had shown them.
He affirmed his commitment to his new alliance with the BJP, stating he would never deviate from it. Kumar criticized the inability of various parties to come together under the "INDIA bloc," claiming that RJD leaders were attempting to appropriate credit for the work of JD(U).
Tejashwi Yadav, speaking before the floor test, vowed to obstruct Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP in Bihar. He extended familial sentiments towards Kumar, urging him to recognize the commonality between their political backgrounds. Tejashwi Yadav pledged to carry forward the flag that Kumar had raised to oppose the BJP across the country.
Additionally, Tejashwi Yadav criticized Kumar's political flip-flopping, accusing him of changing sides multiple times within one chief ministerial term. He insinuated financial impropriety on the part of Tejashwi Yadav during his tenure as deputy chief minister and ally.
