Wherever Congress has come to power, there has been an atmosphere of corruption, liquor and gambling scams and power struggles - Sudhanshu Trivedi

Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi addressed a press conference at the BJP Headquarters in New Delhi on Friday. Dr. Trivedi, while criticising the
Congress model of governance, stated that where BJP governments have focused on development,
transparency and social welfare, wherever the Congress has come to power, an environment of corruption, liquor and gambling-related scams, and power struggles has been witnessed. The ₹6,000
crore liquor scam in Karnataka, online betting, and scams in Dalit welfare schemes are examples of this. BJP national spokesperson also accused the Trinamool Congress of compromising national security in Bengal for political self-interest. BJP MP said that the people of West Bengal will give the BJP a decisive mandate in the upcoming elections.

Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi asserted that whenever the people of any state give power to a political party,
they expect it to take the state forward on the path of development and Sushasan. When Bharatiya
Janata Party was in the opposition and BJP governments were functioning in certain states, the Gujarat Model was widely discussed, as it presented examples of development, transparent governance and a corruption-free administration. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP government implemented schemes aimed at securing the future of young girls. Similarly, Dr. Trivedi highlighted that the first BJP government formed in Karnataka in 2008 made a serious effort to provide interest-free loans to farmers for the first year, a scheme that was implemented successfully. Dr. Trivedi remarked that the achievements of the Central Government are a separate subject; however, it is essential to place before the people an example of the kind of model being presented today by the country’s principal opposition party, the Congress, in the states where it is in power.

BJP National Spokesperson highlighted that Karnataka is an extremely important state of India, endowed with immense potential. Unfortunately, the last time governance came into the hands of the Congress, serious questions began to arise regarding the direction and condition of the state. Dr. Trivedi pointed out that recent reports have emerged that the Karnataka Wine Merchant Association, an organisation of liquor traders, has levelled allegations of a ₹6,000 crore liquor scam against the Congress government. These allegations have not been made by Bharatiya Janata Party or any opposition party, but by those who themselves claim to be victims of this corruption.

BJP National Spokesperson noted that the Karnataka Wine Merchant Association has explained in detail how, from restaurants to hotels, in the process of allotments, corruption money was systematically routed to ministers and other individuals positioned at various levels of the government. The people of the country will recall the Delhi liquor scam, and now a similar new form has surfaced in Karnataka in the shape of a liquor scam. Addiction to alcohol is extremely harmful, and if any addiction is considered even more damaging after alcohol, it is the addiction to gambling. In this context, Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi pointed out that in Karnataka, Congress MLA from Chitradurga, K. C. Veerendra Pappi, has faced allegations of money laundering in an online betting case and has previously been arrested in this matter as well. Earlier too, the Congress government in Karnataka has come under the scanner in cases of corruption related to the Valmiki scheme meant for the Dalit community, and its role has also been exposed in land-related irregularities linked to the MUDA scam. The emergence of serious allegations against the Congress government in matters related to liquor and gambling now raises deep and alarming questions over its governance in Karnataka.

Dr. Trivedi remarked that after addictions to alcohol and gambling, the third addiction is fighting. The third part of the Congress model is that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister continuously and openly fight among themselves. This has become a permanent model of the Congress. Just as BJP
governments have followed a clear development model, The Congress’ enduring model has been that
wherever it forms a government, it appears divided into two factions. In Karnataka, Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah has made an on-record statement that he is not levelling any allegations, but Rahul
Gandhi is not giving permission, and therefore he is unable to expand the cabinet. At the same time,
Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar also made an on-record statement insisting that justice must be done, implying that seat changes were necessary. Similar situations have occurred in Chhattisgarh
between Bhupesh Baghel and K. S. Singh Deo, in Rajasthan between Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot,
and in Himachal Pradesh between Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Vikramaditya Singh. This has now
become the permanent model of the Congress.

BJP MP stated that the massive mandate given by the people of Karnataka to the Congress has been
betrayed and deceived by the Congress itself. Today in Karnataka, alcohol, gambling and violence are
clearly visible, and the Congress is so intoxicated that it has lost all sense of development as well as
concern for the interests of the people of Karnataka. Even when explained, they seem unwilling to
understand anything. In this situation, a line comes to mind as if the Congress is saying, “Mujhko Yaaron Maaf Karna, Main Nashe Mein Hoon; Bottle Mein Main, Mai Mein Nasha Aur Main Nashe Mein Hoon.” So intoxicated is the Congress with its obsession of opposing the Modi Government that wherever it is in power, instead of undertaking any work for social welfare or public development, it remains neck-deep in corruption, busy with self-interest, and engaged in dividing and fragmenting society.

Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi remarked that recently the Calcutta High Court has issued a stern directive to the West Bengal government to immediately complete the process of land allocation for fencing work by the Border Security Force along the India–Bangladesh border, which covers nearly nine districts of West Bengal, and to ensure this by 31 March 2026. This decision is extremely important from the point of view of national security, but at the same time it also raises a very sad, unfortunate and disturbing question. This decision clearly shows that during the rule of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, national security was compromised for political self-interest and the lure of infiltrators’ votes, putting the security of the country’s borders at stake. The High Court’s decision is a sharp blow to the policies of the Trinamool Congress, and if said in one line, this verdict has exposed them completely that the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal is pro-infiltrator and that national security has been endangered during its tenure. We are fully confident that the people of West Bengal, in the upcoming elections, will uproot this government that has jeopardized national security and will give the Bharatiya Janata Party a decisive, effective and overwhelming mandate, so that national security, the development of every citizen of West Bengal, and law and order can all be ensured.
