Veteran Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) leader Sitaram Yechury passed away on Thursday at the age of 72. He had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS New Delhi since August 19 for a pneumonia-like chest infection, according to sources from the party and the hospital.
Yechury's health had been a matter of concern in recent weeks, with reports indicating that he was admitted to AIIMS for acute respiratory tract infection and was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His condition was described as critical but stable, and he had been under oxygen support while being monitored by a team of doctors.

Reacting to the news, former Union Minister and BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar expressed his condolences, stating, "Saddened to hear abt the passing of Sitaram Yechury who was a colleague in Parliament with me some years ago. My deepest condolences to his family and supporters."
