Veteran Bollywood star Dharmendra was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Friday, sending a wave of concern through the film industry and among his legion of fans. The 89-year-old actor, fondly known as the ‘He-Man’ of Hindi cinema, was reportedly rushed to the hospital after experiencing shortness of breath.
Initial reports suggested that the hospital visit was for a routine medical check-up. However, journalist Vickey Lalwani provided an update on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, revealing that the actor was in the ICU. "Dharmendra is in the ICU in Breach Candy Hospital. When I contacted the hospital, I was told that the legendary actor came in, complaining of breathlessness," Lalwani posted. He added a reassuring note, stating, "Currently, his vital parameters are reading well and he is stable."
This update was corroborated by an unnamed hospital staff member, who confirmed to the press that the actor's condition was not a cause for immediate alarm. "No, right now nothing to worry. He is stable. His parameters are okay- the heart rate is 70, the blood pressure is 140 by 80. His urine output is also good," the staff member said.
Despite the concerning nature of the initial report, a source close to the Deol family sought to allay fears, reiterating the routine nature of the visit. The source revealed, "Considering his age, he undergoes several medical tests from time to time, and this visit is just for that. He is absolutely fine, and there’s nothing to be concerned about."
It is understood that the actor's sons, fellow actors Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, are closely monitoring their father's health and are by his side as he remains under doctors' observation.
On the work front, the evergreen Dharmendra continues to inspire with his dedication to his craft. He is set to appear next in director Sriram Raghavan's highly anticipated war drama, Ikkis. The film, which also stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Agastya Nanda, and Simar Bhatia in lead roles, is scheduled for release in December 2025.
Fans and colleagues from across the industry have taken to social media to wish the beloved actor a speedy and full recovery.
