Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, Redefines One-Day Cricket with Record-Shattering Feat in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Indian cricket witnessed a moment of history on the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 as 14-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a performance that stunned the cricketing world. In a breathtaking display of fearless strokeplay, the teenage prodigy rewrote multiple world records, announcing himself as one of the most extraordinary young talents the game has ever seen.

Batting against Arunachal Pradesh, Suryavanshi became the youngest player in history to score a List A century, achieving the milestone in a sensational 36 balls. With this knock, he also became the second-fastest Indian to a List A hundred, narrowly trailing Anmolpreet Singh’s 35-ball century from last year—also against the same opposition. What truly set Suryavanshi apart, however, was his age: at just 14, he is the only player globally to score a century in any professional one-day tournament at such a young age.

If the century was remarkable, what followed was nothing short of historic. Unrelenting in his attack, Suryavanshi powered his way to 150 runs in just 54 balls, breaking the long-standing world record for the fastest 150 in List A cricket. The previous benchmark, held by South African legend AB de Villiers, had stood at 64 balls—until Suryavanshi’s explosive innings rewrote the record books.

The young right-hander looked poised to script yet another milestone by becoming the fastest player to score a double century in white-ball cricket. However, his dazzling knock came to an end at 190 off just 84 balls. Despite falling short of the double ton, the innings was a masterclass in aggressive batting, featuring 16 fours and 15 towering sixes at a staggering strike rate of 226.19. His confidence, timing and shot selection belied his age, leaving the Arunachal Pradesh bowlers visibly demoralised.

This extraordinary performance is only the latest chapter in a year filled with milestones for Suryavanshi. Earlier in 2025, he made headlines as the youngest-ever IPL debutant and centurion for the Rajasthan Royals and followed it up with a blistering 32-ball hundred for India A in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament. His fearless approach and explosive power have already drawn comparisons with some of the game’s greats.

As the Vijay Hazare Trophy unfolds, the spotlight will firmly remain on Vaibhav Suryavanshi. At just 14, he is not merely breaking records—he is redefining the boundaries of what is possible for young cricketers. With his journey only just beginning, the cricketing world waits in anticipation to see how many more milestones this prodigious talent will conquer.
