Who are Agniveers?

Agniveers are youth recruited under the Agnipath scheme, a Government of India initiative launched in June 2022. This short-term military recruitment program targets candidates aged 17.5 to 23 years, aiming to infuse young, tech-savvy, and dynamic individuals into the Indian armed forces, including the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Upon selection, Agniveers undergo a comprehensive training period of six months, followed by three-and-a-half years of active duty.

Post-Service Transition and Benefits

After completing their four-year tenure, approximately 25% of Agniveers are absorbed into permanent roles within the armed forces based on merit and performance criteria. For the rest, the government provides a Seva Nidhi package amounting to approximately Rs 11–12 lakh, aimed at supporting their transition into civilian life. It's important to note that these individuals do not receive pension benefits upon release.
