UP Cabinet Clears MSP Hike, Coal Project, and Mega Infrastructure Push

In a major push to strengthen agriculture, energy security and industrial growth, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved a series of key decisions during a recent Cabinet meeting.

Relief for Farmers with MSP Hike

Providing significant relief to farmers, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi announced a ₹160 per quintal increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat. The revised MSP now stands at ₹2,585 per quintal for the 2026 procurement season.

The wheat procurement drive will be conducted from March 30 to June 15 across all 75 districts of the state through around 6,500 purchase centres. Major agencies, including the Food Corporation of India, NAFED and NCCF, will oversee the procurement process, ensuring smoother operations and timely payments to farmers.

Investment in Energy Infrastructure

In the energy sector, the Cabinet approved ₹2,242.90 crore for the development of the Pachwara coal mine located in Dumka. The mine, earlier allocated by the Centre, will supply coal to the Ghatampur Power Plant—a joint venture between the central and state governments.

The power plant consists of three units of 660 MW each, of which two are already operational. The third unit is expected to be commissioned soon, further boosting the state’s power generation capacity.

Industrial and Logistics Expansion

To accelerate industrial development, the Cabinet cleared the establishment of an Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Centre in Sambhal along the Ganga Expressway. The project has received ₹242.42 crore for infrastructure development and is expected to enhance connectivity and attract investment.

Additionally, approval was granted for a Multimodal Logistics Park in Greater Noida under the state’s Multimodal Logistics Park Policy 2024, aimed at streamlining freight movement and boosting trade efficiency.

Mega Convention Centre in Lucknow

In the capital Lucknow, the Cabinet sanctioned ₹1,435.25 crore for the construction of an International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre in Vrindavan Yojana, Sector 15. The project will include a 10,000-seat convention hall and a 2,500-seat auditorium, developed under EPC mode.

A Multi-Sector Growth Push

These wide-ranging decisions reflect the state government’s focus on enhancing farmer incomes, strengthening energy infrastructure, and building world-class industrial and urban facilities. Together, the initiatives are expected to drive economic growth and position Uttar Pradesh as a key hub for agriculture, manufacturing, and logistics in the coming years.
