US President Donald Trump has issued one of his strongest warnings yet to Iran, declaring that the United States is prepared to unleash an overwhelming military response if Tehran attempts to assassinate him. In a strongly worded post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump claimed that "1,000 missiles" were already "locked and loaded" and aimed at Iran, dramatically escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran amid an increasingly volatile geopolitical environment.
In his post on Friday, Trump asserted that the US military had been instructed to respond with unprecedented force should Iran carry out any attempt on his life. He claimed that a thousand missiles were ready for immediate deployment, with thousands more available to follow, if the Iranian government acted on what he described as repeated assassination threats made against him.
"1,000 missiles are locked and loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran, with thousands more to immediately follow, should the Iranian government act on its threat... to assassinate, or attempt to assassinate, the sitting president of the United States of America, in this case, me," Trump wrote.
The US President further claimed that military orders had already been issued and that American forces would remain on heightened alert for at least one year, with the possibility of extending the period if necessary. He warned that any such attack would result in the complete destruction of targeted areas within Iran. Trump concluded the post with the phrase, "Praise be to Allah!"
Trump's warning comes against the backdrop of sharply deteriorating relations between the United States and Iran following recent US-Israeli military operations that reportedly resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The strikes have intensified anti-American sentiment inside Iran and triggered widespread calls for retaliation.
According to reports, coordinated Friday sermons across Iran and statements issued by the country's Friday Prayer Policy Council called for revenge over Khamenei's killing, further heightening fears of escalation between the two longtime adversaries.
Despite his aggressive rhetoric, Trump also suggested that Iran is seeking a diplomatic resolution after suffering severe military and economic setbacks.
Speaking a day earlier, the President claimed that Tehran was eager to negotiate with Washington following the recent conflict.
"We knocked the hell out of Iran. They are dying to settle. We gave them a week off for a funeral because we're nice," Trump said.
In another interview, Trump argued that Iran's economy was under immense pressure due to soaring inflation and financial instability. He even suggested that improved relations could eventually allow American farmers to export agricultural products to Iran, portraying diplomacy as a potential path forward despite the current hostilities.
Trump's comments triggered a fierce response during funeral ceremonies held in Iran for Khamenei. Large crowds carrying Iranian flags, red banners symbolising vengeance, and portraits of the late Supreme Leader reportedly chanted slogans such as "Death to America" and "Death to Israel."
The atmosphere at Tehran's Grand Mosalla complex reflected growing anger, with posters and graffiti calling for the deaths of both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Poet Mohammad Rasouli, addressing mourners before funeral prayers, received loud applause after declaring, "From now on the shroud is our garment. I swear by your blood; Trump's murder is our responsibility."
Rasouli questioned why Trump remained alive and argued that failing to avenge Khamenei's death would bring lasting shame. Similar calls for retaliation were echoed by many participants at the gathering.
Trump's latest remarks highlight the increasingly dangerous state of US-Iran relations, with military threats and retaliatory rhetoric dominating public discourse on both sides. While the US President has continued to warn of devastating consequences for any attack against him, he has simultaneously maintained that Iran is weakened and ultimately interested in negotiations.
As tensions remain elevated, international observers are closely monitoring developments, fearing that further inflammatory statements or military actions could push the region toward a broader confrontation with far-reaching global consequences.
