Suvendu Adhikari Sends Strong Message After BJP Legislature Leadership Win

Suvendu Adhikari delivered a strong and confident message to the people of West Bengal after being elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party on Friday. Addressing party legislators and supporters in Kolkata, the BJP leader declared that Bengal no longer needs to live under fear and promised a government focused on trust, development, and action-oriented governance.

Speaking after his election, Adhikari assured the people that his administration would prioritize work over rhetoric. “As long as I am alive, Bengal does not need to fear... Fear is out of Bengal and trust is in... I will give less speeches and work more,” he said, drawing loud applause from BJP MLAs and supporters gathered at the meeting.

The announcement marks a historic moment for the Bharatiya Janata Party, as Adhikari is set to become the first BJP Chief Minister in the history of West Bengal. The decision was officially announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah after a key meeting of the party’s newly elected legislators in Kolkata.

Adhikari Vows To Implement Modi’s Guarantees

During his address, Adhikari emphasized that his government would function strictly according to BJP’s ideology and policies. He also reiterated his commitment to implementing every promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the election campaign.

“Bhoi is out and, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji has said, bharosa is in. I will follow only the BJP’s policies and will work towards fulfilling Modi's guarantee in the state,” Adhikari stated.

The remarks reflected the BJP leadership’s attempt to project a message of stability and confidence following the party’s landmark electoral victory in Bengal. Party leaders believe the new government will focus heavily on governance reforms, law and order, welfare delivery, and infrastructure development.

Amit Shah Announces Adhikari’s Name

Earlier in the day, Amit Shah formally announced Adhikari’s election as the leader of the BJP Legislative Party in West Bengal. Shah chaired the crucial meeting attended by senior BJP leaders and newly elected MLAs.

“I announce the name of Suvendu Adhikari elected as Leader of West Bengal BJP Legislative Party,” Shah declared during the meeting.

The development effectively clears the path for Adhikari to take charge as the state’s next Chief Minister. His rise is being viewed as a major political shift in Bengal politics, where regional parties had dominated the landscape for decades.

Swearing-In Ceremony On May 9

Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to take oath as Chief Minister on May 9, a date that coincides with the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The BJP is expected to organize a grand swearing-in ceremony in Kolkata, with several senior national leaders likely to attend the event.

The incoming government is expected to outline its immediate priorities soon after assuming office, with BJP leaders repeatedly stressing their commitment to delivering what they describe as “Sonar Bangla” — a vision of a prosperous and secure Bengal.
