In a significant development amidst the ongoing severe heat and water crisis in Delhi, the Supreme Court has issued a directive that brings much-needed relief to the city's residents. The Court has ordered that Himachal Pradesh supply 137 cusecs of water to Delhi. Additionally, Haryana has been instructed to ensure the unobstructed passage of this water to Delhi's Wazirabad.
However, the Haryana government raised objections, arguing that there is no infrastructure in place to channel the water released by Himachal Pradesh to Delhi. They claimed it is impossible to segregate the water meant for Haryana from that designated for Delhi.
The Supreme Court dismissed Haryana's objections, questioning why there should be any issue if Himachal Pradesh is providing water to Delhi. The Court emphasized that political maneuvering on this matter must cease and the focus should be on addressing the severe water crisis in Delhi.
The Court further directed that Himachal Pradesh begin releasing 137 cusecs of water to Delhi starting Friday. The Court will review the situation again on Monday to assess the progress and impact.
This decision has brought significant relief to Delhi's residents, with hopes that the severe water shortage will improve in the coming days.
