The Southwest Monsoon has officially covered the entire country, marking a significant milestone in this year's rainy season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and the North Arabian Sea, completing its nationwide coverage. The development is expected to bring widespread rainfall across several regions, offering relief from prolonged heat while also prompting authorities to remain alert for weather-related disruptions.
Speaking exclusively to Akashvani News, IMD Senior Scientist Dr. Naresh Kumar said that moderate to heavy rainfall has been continuing over the past few days in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He noted that the prevailing weather pattern is likely to persist, with several areas expected to receive further rainfall during the day.
In view of the prevailing conditions, the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi-NCR, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall. The alert advises residents to remain cautious as intense showers may lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion, reduced visibility and disruptions to normal life. Local authorities have also been urged to remain prepared to deal with any emergency situations arising from heavy rain.
The advance of the Southwest Monsoon across the entire country is an important event for India's agriculture sector, as timely rainfall plays a crucial role in the sowing of kharif crops such as paddy, maize, pulses and cotton. Farmers across several states are expected to benefit from improved soil moisture, although excessive rainfall in some regions may require close monitoring to prevent crop damage.
Meanwhile, weather officials have advised people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to stay updated with official forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Commuters in urban centres have also been asked to plan their journeys carefully, keeping in mind the possibility of waterlogging and slow-moving traffic.
With the monsoon now covering the entire country, India enters the peak phase of the rainy season. The IMD is continuously monitoring the evolving weather system and will issue further forecasts and advisories as required. Citizens are encouraged to follow official weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the ongoing spell of heavy rain.
