The annual Shri Amarnath Yatra resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended for six days due to adverse weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir. The pilgrimage restarted from both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, bringing relief to thousands of devotees who had been awaiting the resumption of the sacred journey to the Amarnath cave shrine.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, confirmed that the Yatra has resumed from both traditional routes. He urged all pilgrims to strictly follow the advisories and safety guidelines issued by the administration to ensure a secure and smooth pilgrimage. Authorities have made extensive arrangements along the routes after reviewing weather conditions and ensuring that the paths are safe for movement.
The suspension of the Yatra had been necessitated by continuous inclement weather, including heavy rainfall, which raised concerns over the safety of pilgrims due to the risk of landslides and slippery tracks. During the suspension period, the administration closely monitored weather forecasts and conducted assessments before granting permission for the pilgrimage to resume.
Meanwhile, enthusiasm among devotees remained high as a fresh batch of 6,269 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu on Saturday morning. The pilgrims left in a convoy under tight security arrangements for the twin base camps at Baltal and Pahalgam, from where they will continue their journey to the holy cave shrine.
Security agencies, disaster response teams, health personnel, and other departments continue to remain on high alert to facilitate the pilgrimage and respond promptly to any emergencies. The administration has also appealed to pilgrims to cooperate with officials, remain updated about weather conditions, and avoid unnecessary halts in vulnerable areas.
The Shri Amarnath Yatra is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages, attracting lakhs of devotees every year. The successful resumption of the pilgrimage marks a significant step in restoring normal movement after weather-related disruptions, with authorities emphasizing that the safety and well-being of pilgrims remain the top priority.
