Seven people were killed and 11 others injured after a passenger bus met with a fatal accident near Chaluj Mor on the Tissa-Bairagarh road in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Saturday morning.
According to preliminary information, the bus was travelling from Bairagarh towards Chamba when the accident occurred near Chaluj Mor. Around 15 to 20 passengers were reportedly travelling in the bus at the time of the crash.
Among the seven people who lost their lives were four men and three women. The bus driver and conductor were also reportedly among those killed in the accident. The exact circumstances that caused the bus to crash are yet to be established.
Following information about the accident, local residents and police personnel rushed to the spot and launched rescue and relief operations. The injured passengers were pulled out and taken to the Civil Hospital in Tissa, where they were provided medical treatment.
The accident triggered concern in the area, with locals assisting authorities in the immediate rescue efforts. The condition of the injured passengers was not immediately available.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident and determine whether any factors related to the road, vehicle or driving contributed to the tragedy.
Additional SHO of Tissa police station, Anubhav Sharma, confirmed the accident and the casualties. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses and authorities complete the identification and assessment of those involved.
The accident once again highlights the risks faced by passengers travelling on the hilly and challenging roads of Himachal Pradesh, where sharp bends, steep terrain and difficult road conditions can make bus travel particularly hazardous.
