The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the Delhi government not providing budget for the RRTS project (Rapid Rail). The Supreme Court strongly reprimanded the Arvind Kejriwal government and even said that the money from its advertisement should be invested in the project. The Supreme Court has given one week's time to the Aam Aadmi Party government.
Earlier in July also, the Supreme Court had expressed displeasure with the Kejriwal government and asked to release money for the project. According to reports, the Supreme Court said, 'Why did the Delhi government not follow the order of this court? We will put a stay on your (Delhi government) advertising budget. We will attach it and install it here.'
The bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia also directed that the advertising funds of the Delhi government be transferred to the project. However, this order has been kept in abeyance for a period of one week. The highest court said that if the Delhi government does not transfer the funds within a week, this order will come into force.
According to reports, the court said, 'If such national projects are affected and the money is being spent on advertising, then we will have to say that the money should be sent for infrastructure.' Senior lawyer Meenakshi Arora, appearing for the Delhi government, asked for one week's time. Justice Kaul said the matter would be listed after a week and the order would become effective if the funds were not released.
